what i have learned – inspired by Maya Angelou

I’ve learned that one of the most important sources of compassion is myself. I’ve learned that regret doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact, it is inevitable. I’ve learned that I don’t know myself as well as I think I do. I’ve learned that people struggle with both wanting to stand out and wanting to fit in. I’ve learned that both are rooted in shame.

I’ve learned that, in this life, grief never ends. I’ve learned that technology makes me feel less connected. I’ve learned that watching the trees dance with the wind makes me feel more alive. I’ve learned that sometimes life is about not having a choice. I’ve learned that there is always a choice. A choice to face and feel the pain and to let it mould me into something better.

I’ve learned that you need me, and I you. I’ve learned that love doesn’t make the world go round; it puts it back together.
