a poem – ‘displacement’

We wish on stars,

Or drink in bars.

We dance to forget,

Put it all on a bet.

Start something new,

Eat ’till we spew.

We watch to forget,

We squirm and fret.

Buy spanking cars,

Dream of life on Mars.

We write,

We fight.

We’re wreck-less,

And feck-less.

We scroll to forget,

To keep out of this net.

We try to make the best,

Before our eternal rest.

We read,

We bleed.

We love,

We shove.

But don’t you forget.

We don’t cry,

Lest we die.
